Structure and strength
We can perform static tests within the range of 0 to 50 kN. Two Wolpert universal tension testing machines are available for this purpose. In addition to the strength tests of belt straps, latches and fittings the belt strap expansion, the adjusting forces on safety-belt adjustment mechanisms or the retraction forces are also for example measured.

Furthermore, there is also the possibility of load testing the two-, three-, four- and five-point belt systems on a bodyblock (in accordance with SAE AS 8043) with up to 5 hydraulic cylinders and each with max. 20 kN.

For testing the HANS® system, which has become obligatory in many racing series, in accordance with FIA 8858-2002, SCHROTH has developed, constructed and put a HANS®-testing installation into service.

Durability tests
In addition to the standard durability tests in accordance with ECE-R 16.04, SHROTH has developed its own, partially SPC controlled, process for monitoring the durability of components under continuous stress or under environmental stress. The process comprises for example of vibration tests, wear tests for belt straps in safety-belt adjustment mechanisms, as well as the behaviour in hot and cold temperatures (-40 to +80°C).

These durability tests will be carried out during the development phase, as well as in accompaniment to production within the scope of a COP plan (COP = Conformity Of Production), to ensure a constantly high level of quality of our products.

Simulation
Even during the construction phase, the geometries and sequences of motions can be simulated with the aid of CAD drafting programs. If necessary, these will be supplemented by FEM calculations in order to be able to demonstrate the force distribution and, thus, to be able to optimise the components. A simulation will also be applied for the evaluation of circuit diagrams of electronic components. A further step toward the development is now realised at SCHROTH Engineering with the introduction of the simulation of dynamic sequences. The crash behaviour of persons can be evaluated with the aid of simulations as from autumn 2006.

System tests
According to customer requirements or for the testing of strength and design or also for certification purposes, dynamic tests will be carried out externally on an ECE-R16.04 sled or on a HyG acceleration apparatus. The systems can be tested in forward, sideward, reverse and also downward motions with various courses of deceleration of up to a maximum deceleration of 75g. Airbag systems are tested in static testing as a tool for design layout and in dynamic testing for design validation.

Components and systems, which are not subject to any test standards, will be tested in accordance with customer requirements or tested with SCHROTH's own test procedure, such as the WAB (water activated buckle), a harness used for attaching additional tanks on ships.
